INDIAN CUISINE

  • India is divided into 4 main regions as follows :-

    North India
 East India
  West India
     South India 

INTRODUCTION:
The term CUISINE  means the food culture of particular area or state or region.
India has a rich and varied cultural heritage. India is a home to a wide variety of food from different regions of the country. The various factors that are responsible for the diversity of the cuisine are:-
  1. Geographical Locations
  2. Cultural Differences
  3. Varieties in local Produce
  4. Traditions
  5. Eating Habits of Locals
Behind this remarkable diversity, there is one thing that unite Indians that is HOSPITALITY!

Cuisine of different states is different. The cuisine from many states or many regions have common
preparation style and thus flavor profiles of neighboring states are similar.
Food in the North India might be very different from the food from South India . The food of KASHMIR have little similarities with the food of PUNJAB or HIMACHAL-PRADESH even though the two states touch the border of JAMMU & KASHMIR
Similarly the South of India have the same diversity. The food of ANDHRA-PRADESH is quit different from the food of TAMILNADU and KERALA. The method of cooking and the way of using ingredients is quit different. To a Non-Indian person the diversity of food can create a lot of confusion as he may feel that a basic chicken curry or Dal is prepared in so man different ways.
There are 28 States and 9 Union Territories and each state has own unique style of preparation & Technique. Indian eating habits are influence by many factors such as Religion,Geographical location or factors, Availability of ingredients, and also many Indian States had various Rulers and Invaders who have left their cooking influence behind.

The Indian Cuisine is divided into 4 groups depending on the region on which those states are present:


  • North India (Northern cuisine)
  • East India (Eastern Cuisine)
  • West India (Western Cuisine)
  • South India (Southern Cuisine)
